Shojoshin-in Buddhist Temple Stay
This is a little snapshot of Shojoshin-in Buddhist Temple, located on Mt Koya, south of Osaka in Japan. The video was taken just walking around the temple. There are a couple of photos from around the sleeping quarters and the grounds too.
I would highly recommend staying here. Just don’t do what I did, which was bring three carnivorous men in their early 20s. The Temple is 100 percent vegetarian. I warned my companions and their complaints subsided as they chowed down at McDonald’s in Osaka the next day.
Okunoin’s cemetery next door is a highlight of the area. Make sure to look out for the SONY lot.

I’m hoping to get to Osaka sometime in the next couple of months, and this temple stay looks lovely. Do you have to book in advance? Was it expensive?

oh please do! It was stunning!
I would definitely book in advance. We were there in October, which is generally not a busy time and the place was full. Be warned there is communal bathing (which I liked, but isn’t everyone’s cup of tea).
Please let me know how you go!

We have a communal bathing thing here in Korea called jjimjilbang that I enjoy a lot, so it should be ok for me. 🙂
