It was my mum’s 50th in September and I wanted to make sure she had the best possible Birthday weekend. Mum hasn’t been dealing with the news that my partner and I are moving to the UK, so I wanted to make sure this weekend was as much fun as it could be.
I woke up early on the Saturday morning, cooked a couple of mean omelets for my mum, my partner and my little sister and told them we we’re walking up Mt Coolum. It’s only 2k’s but it’s quite steep in parts and the top is a little unstable footing wise. I had brought her up a hat, tshirt and shorts, as her usual outfit of a summer dress and heels just weren’t going to cut it.
Mum managed it all quite well. Tripped over at one point but we’re not the most coordinated bunch. We started walking at about 9 and finished at 10:20, so we made pretty good time. I’d recommend this time or earlier, as it gets quite hot in the middle of the day. The view of Coolum and beyond from the top is spectacular and well worth the small trek up. I did pass a young woman wearing sandals and a short skirt though, as pretty as she looked she was in serious pain when I saw her at the top, so if you’re thinking of doing this climb, please pack some work out clothes 🙂
For the rest of the day I baked her a red velvet cake with extra icing and bought her a bottle of Moet. Well deserved after the morning walk.
