Boiling in Brunei

Brunei. It’s mid-December, it’s so bloody hot all you want is a nice, cold beer… too bad the whole place is dry. No Beer for you, buddy!

I had a stopover here on my way to the UK in 2011, and would recommend getting out of the airport and checking it out if you have more than 6 hours to spare. For those flying Royal Brunei from Sydney or Melbourne to Europe, this will undoubtedly be one of your stop-overs. The airport is tiny, but here’s a tip: if you buy something from the cafe you will get the WIFI password.

We walked around for a little while (would not recommend in summer – I love walking, but just pay the damn taxi fare). Women, please wear clothing that covers your knees and elbows. Yes, even if it seems like you might actually sweat to death. Brunei is the first Asian country to introduce Sharia.

I would recommend the night boat tour around the water village; checking out the Sultan’s father’s Mosque; a tour of the Sultan’s Mosque (I’ve never seen so much gold in my life, even the gate was 18 Carat); and the night markets (great place for picking up food and bargains).
